His exhortation for individualism, and individual-centric freedom, while alluring to the rebellious mind, may well contribute to weakening social bonds, and result in a fragmented, tattered social fabric.I beg to differ from this oft-quoted author whose name (Orwellian) has become synonymous with an oppressive, dehumanizing society. I've tried four recipes so far and my family has told me to keep three of them (Those aren't bad odds in my opinion). I did find it to be a bit of a repeat of previous books with a bit too much action. The action takes a little while to build, but the story quickly builds to a breakneck pace and ultimately to a satisfying conclusion. For fans of the series, I have to recommend this one highly. In the past searching for information about Grant Wood I was never able to find anything that really felt more than superficial and at a distance about Grant Wood the man. Not a bad life for a guy who once hustled "Ever Retty" flashlight bulbs out of a canal boat in Thailand! Page's loyalty to his deceased colleagues is revealed in his accounts of his "high times" with Sean Flynn and Dana Stone and others who all either lost their lives or their hearts in Southeast Asia the list goes on and on, page after page.. These strips are nice to read given that so few of the Spider-man newspaper strips have been reprinted.
The value in this book is that she clearly and concisely describes the process from both vantage points. Mehaffy, vice president for academic leadership and change, American Association of State Colleges and Universities)There are many first-rate professionals in the highly competitive business of academic searches but few, if any, have as much first-hand experience as faculty members and administrators as Jean Dowdall. Along the way, she is careful to note where there may be special concerns for internal candidates, for non-traditional candidates, and for unsuccessful candidates. Finally, however, much of the mystery is being removed from the search process, both for candidates and for search committees, with the publication of Searching for Higher Education Leadership. This book typifies her exhaustive approach to searches and it is now the indispensable seminal work for search practitioners and scholars. It is this dual perspective thaDowdall's book offers sample documents for candidates as well as for the search committees, and includes a substantive bibliography. Key selling points include: The eagerness for career advice that exists, both from candidates (Part I of the book) and search committees (Part II of the book); a visible author, who writes a monthly column in the Chronicle of Higher Education and lectures often at leadership seminars; and information on this subject which covers all institutional types, including liberal arts colleges, comprehensive institutions, research universities, and community colleges.. From her vantage point outside the institution, Dowdall is able to provide a unique point of view and insightful comments on the complex and often daunting process of the academic executive searchShe has written numerous columns for the Chronicle of Higher Education, offering search advice for candidates and search committees. . Jean A. Dowdall, vice president at Witt/Kieffer, Oak Brook, IL, is a consultant to colleges and universities in their searches for presidents and other senior officers
