I loved this book because it succinctly deals with the "heavy" topics of mental illness and substance abuse. even while legal.EDIT:I checked out Testosterone Dreams, which covers much of the same ground as this book as far as athletes goes - in a briefer fashion.But it too, does not look at the long term effects of using Steroids in higher doses than is natural for extended periods. read this book. And as an openly gay man, Evans is not blind to the multitude of clues in Wood's paintings that signal the artist's queer sensibility and even homoerotic sentiments that most previous critics have ignored.Even those not steeped in the arcanae of art criticism will find Evans' descriptions of what the paintings mean an engrossing read, all the more so because these works are included among the book's many illustrations. Nowhere else could you find all these old magazine articles unless of course you have a giant collection of old magazines and the time to dig thru them.I noticed some not so good reviews that mentioned a "Chevrolet bias" and nothing more than a compilation of "magazine articles", but then I'm not sure
